AMP Stories (aka Web Stories) in Google Search - updated
What are AMP Stories?
By now, you'll be very familiar with us praising AMP, and all the benefits of an AMP-powered website (speed, user experience optimised).
AMP have now gone to the next level, introducing AMP stories, appearing on Google mobile search results.
AMP stories is a visual storytelling format for the open web. The stories allow readers to immerse in a tappable, full-screen content. The format enables publishers and marketers to create visual content that is fast, open, and user-first.
Users view a lot of content on their mobile devices, and this format uses bold text, images, videos, and graphics to get the mobile user’s attention as quickly as possible and allows them to consume content in a way that’s not taxing.
Google say they are “a mobile-focused format for delivering news and information as visually rich, tap-through stories.” While this might sound a lot like something Snapchat or Instagram or Facebook has already done, it has one distinct advantage over its predecessors: it's backed by the world’s most-used search engine.
It’s a way for publishers to grab and hold the attention of readers. In a world where we’re all swimming in content, this level of engagement - particularly on mobile devices - is invaluable.
Better still, though, is the fact these gorgeous nuggets of whirring images and copy stick to the AMP ethos: they’re super fast.
AMP Stories are...
- Fast: AMP stories load quickly and provide users a smooth experience
- Immersive: The stories make for an immersive experience since they expand and visually fill the user’s screen. The tappable format offers creative opportunities for storytelling with design flexibility that engage audiences
- Open: AMP stories are a part of the open web and can be easily shared and embedded across websites and apps with minimum limitations
